How can you tell if a fish is ill do to sickness or due to being buddied?

I have a fire goby I think is being buddied by my gramma and thus not eating?

Buddied? Do you mean bullied?
Fire fish are fragile to begin with. I’ve read and witnessed cases that they will hide and not eat from tank mates that pick and chase them. Grammas in general fit that category of being bullies. With out pictures of the fire fish its difficult to ID a parasite or bacteria infection. If I had to guess, the fish is being harassed by other fish and thus stressing out and not eating. The best way to resolve this is to separate the two fish. Either put one in the sump or another tank. I would preferably take the fire fish out and seclude him from other possibly stressful fish. This would also allow you to fatten him up and directly feed him a meaty enhanced diet.

Be careful of your current situation-The fire fish may not have ich or a sickness yet but stress can cause many afflictions. Resolve the situation quickly or you could have other problems arise.
